Danish Queen Margrethe announces surprise abdicationafter 52 years on the throne

In a surprise move Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II has announced she will abdicate her role early in 2024, after a reign lasting more than five decades.

在令人驚訝的舉動中，丹麥女王瑪格麗特二世宣布她將在2024年初退位，結(jié)束了長達(dá)五十多年的統(tǒng)治。

Margrethe, 83, will hand over the throne to her son, Crown Prince Frederik, she said in her traditional New Year’s Eve speech broadcast on Danish television. She cited a back surgery in February 2023 as giving her thoughts about the future.

現(xiàn)年83歲的瑪格麗特在她傳統(tǒng)的新年致辭中表示，她將把王位交給她的兒子，皇儲弗雷德里克。她提到了2023年2月的背部手術(shù)，這讓她思考了未來。

“In two week’s time I have been Queen of Denmark for 52 years,” she said. “Such an amount will leave its mark on anybody – also on me! The time takes its toll, and the number of ‘a(chǎn)ilments’ increases. One cannot undertake as much as one managed in the past,” she added.

她說：“再過兩周，我將成為丹麥女王52年了。這段時間對任何人都會留下痕跡，包括我自己！時間會留下痕跡，各種‘小病小痛’也會增加。一個人無法像過去那樣承擔(dān)那么多。”

“In February this year I underwent extensive back surgery,” she said. “Everything went well, thanks to the competent health personnel, who took care of me. Inevitably, the operation gave cause to thoughts about the future – whether now would be an appropriate time to pass on the responsibility to the next generation.

她說：“今年二月，我接受了一場大型的背部手術(shù)。多虧了負(fù)責(zé)我的專業(yè)醫(yī)護(hù)人員，一切都進(jìn)行得很順利。手術(shù)不可避免地引發(fā)了對未來的思考——現(xiàn)在是不是適當(dāng)?shù)臅r機(jī)將責(zé)任傳遞給下一代?！?/p>
